Integrated Ph.D. programme in Public Policy at NLSIU is created with a provision for M.Phil. as a terminal degree after the first year. The first year of the programme involves course work consisting of 31 credits of taught courses and eight credits of dissertation work. Candidates who obtain a CGPA of 4.5 shall be permitted to begin their doctoral work in the second year. If a candidate gains CGPA in the range of 3-4.5, s/he will be awarded M.Phil. (Public Policy), but will need to be discontinued from the programme. Integrated Ph.D. programme can be completed in four years. In the second year there are course works for eight credits before starting the dissertation work. Maximum permissible duration is six years, after which the candidates will have to re-register for the programme, starting with the second year or opt for an M.Phil. degree. From second year onwards there is an expectation that scholars will provide teaching and research assistance.
